After activating it on the application and the website
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, October 19th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
As a part of its participation at GITEX 2015, the Ministry of Interior is displaying its latest edition of advanced digital maps, which the smart Government program team recently activated on the Ministry’s smart application UAE-MOI and the Ministry's website www.moi.gov.ae.
Lt. Colonel Faisal Mohammed Al Shammari, Executive Director of the MoI’s Smart Government Program, pointed out that activating the digital maps platform provides accurate geographical and spatial data to customers and service centers. “This would further promote and boost the level of services and streamlines access to these services in record time,” he said.
Additionally, Lt. Colonel Al Shammari noted that the Ministry of Interior has resorted to the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Center to activate digital maps; because geographic services are one of the basic pillars in the smart services matrix and an essential component of the e-transformation initiatives and projects.
Adding further, Lt. Colonel Al Shimmari said: “In addition to serving the public, the digital maps platform supports many police and operational systems such as the Operations Rooms. They also contribute to provide the necessary enablers to achieve the national agenda, as a part of the government’s vision to make the UAE one of the safest places in the world by achieving a 100% total sense of security and by reducing response time to emergency calls to just minutes; and leveraging the latest technologies to achieve the Abu Dhabi's Economic Vision 2030, which includes establishing the government of Abu Dhabi as one of the best five e-governments in the world.”
Lt. Colonel Al Shimmari emphasized that this latest measure aims at supporting the Ministry's efforts to promote its Smartphone services, via quick and easy steps that are accessible to all in one click. “The ministry will be providing an array of other functions ready for activation with a series of adjustments, to be announced soon,” he explained.
For his part, Major Mohammed Saleh Al Mansouri, Director of the Geographic Information System (GIS) Security Center, noted that the update includes geographical navigation services, updating the service centers’ data in collaboration with the Customer Service Department, and providing digital maps including tens of thousands of searchable geographic points of interest, ensuring the singularity and availability of services in a convenient and sophisticated way.
It is worth mentioning that the US-based Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), an international leading supplier of geographic information (GIS) software, recently commended the efforts of Abu Dhabi in the area of geographic information systems (GIS). ESRI also praised the milestones achieved by the GIS Security Center in the field of geographic information systems, which fall in line with the Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure (AD-SDI) initiative launched by the Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC).
The ESRI Institute praised the concrete steps achieved by the Geographic Information System Security Center at the Abu Dhabi Police in designing and building an electronic geographical and security matrix for the exchange geospatial data at the federal level. This earned the center a prestigious reputation, as one of the best global institutions in the design of geographical information systems and adoption of open standards for geospatial data.
Moreover, the ESRI Institute highlighted the practical steps carried out by Abu Dhabi to adopt GIS in managing crises and disasters, improving response times, as well as establishing an electronic infrastructure program to exchange federal security-sensitive geospatial data at the countrywide level. The Institute also hailed the uniqueness of this system across the region in terms of design.
