OT’s Innovative Lasink™ Solution Chosen by Costa Rica to Provide Highly Secure National ID Cards

COLOMBES, France - Friday, November 13th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Oberthur Technologies (OT), a leading global provider of embedded security software products, services and solutions today announced that its cutting-edge Lasink™ solution has been selected by Costa Rica, through a multi-year contract to provide highly secure national ID cards.

With the aim of providing its citizens with enhanced security for their ID cards, the Costa Rica government has decided to migrate to a highly secured credential. Thanks to Lasink™, its state-of-the-art polycarbonate technology, OT is providing a laser-engraved high security identification card preventing forgery thanks to its unique features which make it easy to authenticate by police forces, but also governmental agencies, banks, car rentals agencies, etc.

In order to support the Costa Rican government in the modernization of their identity documents, OT will implement a turnkey end-to-end system including card manufacturing and identification. In addition, a complete integrated and centralized infrastructure will be built to personalize the highly secured national ID cards.

Citizens regularly need to identify themselves to public authorities using their ID credentials even though every year, thousands of fraudulent identity documents are illegally used. Technologies used by fraudsters are constantly improving; that is why OT is always reinventing security features to stay ahead of these fraudsters: Lasink™ is the only solution impossible to counterfeit and easy to control. This exclusive and patented technology from OT offers both a 10-year life span for the cards and the best security possible, especially a card body which is impossible to delaminate.

“We are particularly proud that Costa Rica selected Lasink™ - our patented-technology that generates a colour photo on any polycarbonate card by laser engraving. Thanks to this solution, the benefits for the country are twofold: citizens have increased trust in identity documents and are able to access a full range of services such as voting, and the government implements a solution which is easy to roll-out and control” said Christophe Fontaine, Managing Director of the Citizen Access and Identity business at OT.

OT will showcase its Lasink™ technology at Cartes 2015 in Paris (November 17-19, 2015). Come and visit us Hall4 – 4J100.
