Japan IT Week Autumn 2015: Visitor and Exhibitor Numbers Hit Record High

Japan’s leading B-to-B IT show Japan IT Week gathered 40,422 visitors and 535 exhibitors. IoT and MY NUMBER related exhibits were highlighted.

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Reed Exhibitions Japan held the 6th edition of Japan’s leading B-to-B IT show - Japan IT Week Autumn at the end of last month from October 28-30 at Makuhari Messe, Japan. The latest IT solutions and services for various businesses were showcased.

The figures of the show hit a record high of 40,422 visitors, 535 exhibitors and 14,092 conference attendees, all exceeding from the previous edition. The visitor number jumped up by more than 27% and the show scale by 23% reflecting active business being conducting on-site.

Composed of 8 exhibitions, Japan IT Week Autumn covered various areas of Japan’s IT business - 6th Cloud Computing Expo Japan, 5th Information Security Expo, 5th Web & Digital Marketing Expo, 5th Smartphone & Mobile Expo, 4th Data Center Expo, 4th Big Data Management Expo, 3rd Direct Commerce Solutions Expo and 1st IoT/M2M Expo.

This year the buzz words of the show were “MY NUMBER” and “IoT”. In response to the demands of the market, a new exhibition for IoT – IoT/M2M Expo was launched and the majority of the exhibits at Information Security Expo and large parts of other exhibitions were solutions and services for the new “MY NUMBER” scheme starting in Japan early next year.

Solutions to protect “MY NUMBER”

Early next year, the new social security and tax system "MY NUMBER" will be starting in Japan. To effectively protect personal information of citizens, sufficient security measures are essential. The government is to spend up to JPY 300 billion on systems related to information processing by 2017 for the MY NUMBER system. Including spending by the public, the market size of MY NUMBER related security business is estimated to sum up to around JPY 1 trillion. Since the introduction of this new system is just around the corner, Information Security Expo grew by 25% in exhibition size reflecting the demands in the Japanese IT market. A new exhibit zone for MY NUMBER cloud solutions were also launched at Cloud Computing Expo Japan.

A Keynote was held at the conference on this topic on the final day of the show. CYBER DEFENSE INSTITUTE discussed the needs to understand the conditions for hackers and CYBER TRUST talked about the opportunities to review current security systems for MY NUMBER.

IoT highlighted throughout the show

With the potential for IoT business expanding in Japan, so has the exhibits at Japan IT Week. At the spring edition of the show, the IoT/M2M Expo held inside the show expanded its size by 3-folds. To provide an additional platform for IT professionals to conduct business in the second half of the year, IoT/M2M EXPO was newly added to the line-up of the autumn show edition from this year.

IoT was also a popular topic among the conference. A Keynote Session was held on the first day by FUJITSU and FANUC. Both discussed the use of IoT in robotic technologies in business. The 3 major providers in Japan SOFTBANK, KDDI and NTT DOCOMO also held a Keynote Session sharing their views and outlook of the growing IoT business.

The next edition already starting to bloom

Japan IT Week Autumn is a sister edition of Japan’s largest B-to-B IT show Japan IT Week Spring held annually in May. Since its launch 6 years ago, it has continued consecutive growth as the platform for IT professionals in Japan to seek solutions and services for various businesses in the second part of the year. The spring edition is coming up next spring and to be held on May 11-13 at Tokyo Big Sight, expecting 1700 exhibitors and 85000 visitors to participate.

The next autumn edition of Japan IT Week is to take place at Makuhari Messe October 26-28. 2016. The majority of the space is selling out already and the total show size is to expand further by 25% to accommodate the growing demands.
