The Ministry of Interior (MoI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) in the fields of security and counterterrorism.
The MoU was signed in the MoI headquarters by Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior, and from the Korean side, Kang Sin-Myeong, the National Police Commissioner of the Republic of Korea.
The MoU enhances cooperation between both parties to prevent and combat crimes, especially in the fields of legislation, all types of organized crime, and corruption. The fields also extend to combating human trafficking, forgery and counterfeiting, economic crimes and drugs. The memorandum also determines the cooperation mechanism between both countries in these areas.
Lt. General Al Sha’far said that the MoU stresses the genuine desire of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to increase international cooperation to reduce all types of crimes. He pointed out that this MoU is similar to other MoUs signed with various other countries.
Sin-Myeong explained from his side that this MoU is an important step towards enhancing cooperation between Korea and the UAE to combat terrorism and international crimes. “This cooperation is necessary to enhance both countries’ efforts in achieving security and safety,” he added.
The signing ceremony was attended on behalf of the MoI by Major General Mohammed Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Assistant Undersecretary of Resources and Support Services; Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Inspector General of the MoI; Brigadier Hamad Ajlan Al Amimi, Director General of the Federal Criminal Police; Colonel Thani Butti Al Shamsi, Head of the Training Department; and Lt. Colonel Ahmed Saeed Al Mazroui, Head of the International Cooperation Department at the MoI.
On behalf of the Korean Police, the ceremony was attended by Lee Seung Ji Yong, Director General of Foreign Affairs; Lee Si Young Ki, Director General of the Korean Police - Public Security; Yu Yum Ben, Head of the Foreign Affairs Office - Department of Planning, and a number of officials from the Korean police.
