The 16th Emirates Society of Ophthalmology Congress is to be launched in Dubai on Thursday

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Health Authority, and supported by Hamdan Medical Award, the 16th Emirates Society of Ophthalmology Congress will kick off on Thursday. The 3-days conference will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, with the participation of around 1400 ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, medical assistants and allied healthcare professionals from the region and abroad.

Mr Abdullah Bin Souqat, the Executive Director of Hamdan Medical Award, praised the award’s cooperation with the Emirates Medial Association in supporting the continuing medical education programs with the aim of developing the professional performance of physicians locally and regionally in all medical specialties.

“The congress provides an exciting opportunity to have access to the latest developments in all subspecialty interests in Ophthalmology and visual sciences”, he added.

Dr. Saleh AL Messabi, the president of the Emirates Society of Ophthalmology and the president of the conference, said: “The conference, organized by the Emirates Society of Ophthalmology, has witnessed a noticeable development. This year’s edition includes 35 scientific sessions and 280 lectures, delivered by 125 local and international faculty members from 20 countries including UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, India, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, the United Kingdom and Canada”.

“The congress features an exhibition that will provide a unique opportunity for all the attendees to interact with 75 providers of products and services in ophthalmology field to keep abreast with latest technology and techniques”, he added.

“Many regional ophthalmological societies from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan and Egypt are supporting the congress, and this cooperation has enriched the scientific program of the conference”.

It is worthy to mention that the conference discusses many important topics such as advance techniques in diagnosing the eye disorders such as glaucoma, retina cases and other common eye care issues related to allergy, dust, sightedness, conjunctivitis, dry eyes, eye redness and others. Experts will also debate on therapeutic choices, use of lasers, technology advancement and advanced medical therapies”.

Also, special focus sessions will be conducted by leading experts on how to prevent blindness and steps taken by UAE to introduce ophthalmic mobile services and use of tele medicine to enhance eye screening for diabetic patients. A special case study will also be presented on the use of technology as how smart applications are used in mass screening for eye disorders in Nigeria and Bangladesh”.
