ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Friday, March 13th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
The “Tathqeef” traffic patrol at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police continues to roam the Emirates as a part of the GCC Traffic Week activities, to spread traffic awareness. The patrol has already attracted hundreds of people from various segments of society, especially tourists, since the launch of its awareness programs in front of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa tower.
Major Abdulrahman Khatir, Traffic Awareness Branch Manager at the Traffic and Patrols Department at Sharjah Police, hailed the interaction of the public with the programs of the “Tathqeef” Patrol, implemented as a part of the GCC Traffic Week events in Mega Mall in Sharjah. He also urged all segments of society to adhere to traffic laws and avail of the guidelines and awareness programs, which have been designed for their benefit.
For his part, Captain Hamdan Hassan bin Thiban, from the Public Relations Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Member of the Unified Traffic Departments Preparations Team, said that the patrol is roaming the cities across the UAE with a set of interesting programs for all. “The ‘Tathqeef’ patrol provides awareness videos that are displayed on a screen mounted on the back of the vehicle. It also includes a portable camera to record the awareness-raising activities and debates that take place with members of the public. The key objective of the patrol is to promote awareness about the means of traffic safety and accident prevention; such as child seats, first aid kit and fire extinguishers,” he continued. Moreover, he noted that the female visitors showed great interest in demonstrations and were keen to participate in the traffic awareness contests.
He also added that the traffic awareness convoy, of the “Tathqeef” patrol, serves as a mobile awareness unit, to support other traffic departments in presenting traffic-related lectures; especially in the most highly visited areas to urge motorists to adhere to traffic laws and designated speed limits; use the seatbelt and refrain from using mobile phones while driving.
For his part, Assistant Ahmed Abdo from the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate said that the traffic-oriented activities carried out by the Saaed Patrol continue. It has already conducted interactive programs at various locations, notably at Mega Mall in Sharjah and on Ajman Corniche, in addition to areas that have a high population density in Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, and will conclude its awareness- raising activities in Abu Dhabi.
It is worth mentioning that the “Tathqeef” patrol was established with the aim of boosting traffic awareness among all members of society. It seeks to engage families and boost their traffic awareness through home visits, as well as to provide personal drivers and domestic help with the proper guidelines on how to handle children inside the vehicle and on the road, and acquaint parents with the means to contribute to reducing traffic accidents. The patrol also carries out awareness programs in public areas by organizing lectures that shed the light on the patrol and the services it provides, as well as by distributing gifts and guidance brochures that display horrific pictures of accidents and the potential consequences of traffic violations.
