ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, January 8th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
Due to heavy fog conditions Thursday morning, dozens of vehicles collided on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai road leaving 20 persons with minor injuries from separate cases of collision.
Forty traffic patrols responded to calls regarding accidents between the Rawdat Al Reef Bridge and towards Al Shahama. Ambulances treated those with injuries onsite and immediately transported the injured to nearby hospitals to receive necessary treatments.
Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi, Head of Peripheral Regions Traffic Department at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police said: “Within minutes, the patrols were able to respond and arrive to the locations. They were able to complete the process of accident reconstruction and clear the road within two hours.”
Colonel Al Bloushi added: “The Directorate has implemented an emergency plan during foggy weather conditions in collaboration with the civil defense, ambulance, and rescue teams. The plan includes restricting areas where the accidents have occurred and provide alternative routes to avoid additional accidents.”
Colonel Al Bloushi reiterated his call upon motorists to drive carefully on both internal and external roads, especially during late night until early morning hours, to leave sufficient distance between vehicles, to avoid over-taking, and to avoid making common driving mistakes - such as using the hazard lights during fog conditions- all of which lead to traffic accidents.
He urged drivers to stop their vehicles off of the road while taking all precautionary measures in order to secure their safety as they drive during with foggy conditions. “Motorists are advised to slow down gradually and to continue driving with caution, with a speed that befits weather conditions and can adjust to any surprises,” Colonel Al Bloushi explained.
the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has recently launched the ‘Security Glances’ Campaign, which had included a radio address urging motorists to take all necessary precautions while driving in foggy conditions during the early morning or evening.
