Passenger traffic at DXB climbs 4.3 per cent in November 2014
Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, December 30th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Dubai Airports maintained its growth trajectory in the second half of 2014 with passenger traffic at Dubai International rising 4.3 per cent in November, according to the latest traffic report issued by operator Dubai Airports today.
Passenger traffic in November 2014 totalled 5,565,509, up 4.3 per cent from the 5,337,544 passengers recorded in the same month in 2013. Year to date traffic rose 5.9 per cent to 63,977,063 compared to 60,384,407 passengers recorded during the first 11 months of last year.
Aircraft movements climbed 10 per cent in November 2014 to 34,690 movements, up from the 31,525 movements recorded in November last year. Year to date aircraft movements declined 3.5 per cent to 325,469 movements, down from the 337,121 movements achieved in the first 11 months of 2013. The drop in aircraft movements so far this year has been driven by capacity cuts made during the runway refurbishment programme earlier this year.
Regionally Eastern Europe was the fastest growing region, with passenger traffic rising 54.1 per cent year on year in November, spurred on by strong growth from Budapest, Prague and Warsaw.
Cargo volumes slipped 8 per cent in November 2014 to 205,375 tonnes, down from the 223,195 tonnes recorded in the same month last year. Year-to date cargo volumes dipped 2.7 per cent to 2,164,738 tonnes, down from the 2,225,486 tonnes achieved during the same period last year. Freight volumes at Dubai International continued to be impacted in the second half of 2014 by the move of all dedicated freighter services to Al Maktoum International in May this year.
“Given the traffic achieved in the first 11 months, together with some of the busiest days on record in December, we are confident of ending the year above the 70 million mark and confirming our position as the world’s busiest international airport,” said Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.
“Looking forward to 2015, the prospects remain exceedingly bright and we expect to maintain the strong growth achieved this year in the next 12 months. Therefore Dubai Airports continues to invest in world-class facilities to meet this demand, including the opening of the new Concourse D in the first half of next year.”

ZTE Unveils Redesigned Logo in New Strategic Focus on M-ICT Innovations
New corporate identity epitomized by new “Tomorrow never waits” slogan as ZTE focuses on transformative M-ICT innovations for consumers, carriers, enterprises and organizations
SHENZHEN, China - Tuesday, December 30th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE) -- ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ) today unveiled a redesigned logo, presenting a new corporate identity that is aligned with the company’s strategy to focus on transformative value-added M-ICT innovations for consumers, carriers, enterprises and organizations as mobile connectivity and cloud-based technologies reshape the digital landscape.
Under ZTE’s M-ICT strategy, the company is committed to its mission to drive innovations in telecommunications, enterprise computing and consumer devices to help customers adapt and thrive in the era of intelligent, always-on connectivity. In the M-ICT world envisioned by ZTE, the inexorable growth of mobility will equip a plethora of new devices and objects with the capability to connect and communicate with each other or with humans in real-time. The new ZTE slogan, “Tomorrow never waits”, reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to providing customers with access to technology solutions that will define the future.
Please download infographic for pictorial view of ZTE’s M-ICT strategy:http://wwwen.zte.com.cn/en/press_center/news/201412/t20141229_430444.html
The rounded design and lighter color of the new ZTE logo dovetails with the company’s new CGO philosophy (Cool – Green – Open), which will drive innovations that are dynamic, youthful and compelling to users, sustainable and environmentally responsible, as well as open-minded and collaborative.
“ZTE is evolving our operations in line with our broader M-ICT vision, which will help us deliver higher value to customers and drive the growth of our business,” said Shi Lirong, President and Chief Executive Officer of ZTE Corporation. “Our new M-ICT strategy will open up a total addressable market of USD 3.5 trillion for ZTE, far bigger than the USD 350 billion telecommunications market.”
Harnessing ZTE’s capabilities and expertise in the three main operating divisions: Carrier Solutions, Enterprise Business and Mobile Devices, the company is strongly-positioned to offer customers with integrated end-to-end solutions as mobile Internet drives the convergence of telecommunications and information technologies. ZTE’s new CGO Laboratory, whose name is inspired by the core company philosophy, will also focus on innovations in emerging new technologies such as wireless charging for vehicles. In September, the world’s first large-scale public bus service powered by wireless charging technology, developed by ZTE and Dongfeng Automobile Co., entered service. The technology, based on electromagnetic induction, is the world’s most advanced wireless-charging solution, offering a new alternative for charging electrical vehicles, in addition to the current practices of plug-in charging and battery replacements.
For 30 years, ZTE’s products and services have helped connect more than 1 billion people globally, driving the growth of wireless and wireline network connectivity in Asia, the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Africa as the company became a global top-5 provider of telecommunications solutions. ZTE’s broad set of technology capabilities ranging from base stations, cloud computing systems, software to smartphones and wearables gives the company a strong platform to provide innovative next-generation converged solutions in the M-ICT era.
ZTE will encourage all its employees globally to embrace the company’s new CGO philosophy, motivating them to adopt creative and fresh thinking, and a more energetic culture of open collaboration as the company strives to deliver the highest-performance products and innovations to customers.
“At the heart of the new strategy is the move towards a new company culture,” Mr. Shi said. “In the coming months, our customers will see the new ZTE through the actions and projects of our employees.”

“Security Glances” to Call for Safe Driving in Foggy Conditions on Sunday
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, December 27th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
As a part of the ’Security Glances’ Campaign, Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi Head of Peripheral Regions Traffic Department at Abu Dhabi Police will be making a radio address on Sunday, urging motorists to exercise caution when driving in foggy weather, during late night and early morning hours.
In his radio message, Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi will explain to listeners that foggy weather conditions are likely to cause more road accidents, therefore more attention is required and observing traffic rules and regulations is mandatory to avoid accidents. He will also urge motorists to reduce speed especially during changing weather conditions, to leave sufficient safe distance between vehicles, and to avoid overtaking other vehicles. He also warned drivers against using their hazard lights while driving.
It is worth mentioning that the Security Media Department, at the General Secretariat of the Office of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, represented by the Radio Branch, had recently launched the ‘Security Glances’ Campaign. The campaign includes security-related tips and advice provided by service departments’ directors at the Ministry of Interior and the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ), each according to his/her specialization. This would enhance confidence and lend credibility and transparency to the campaign’s coveted goals and outcomes.
The Abu Dhabi Police regularly implements several awareness activities to warn motorists when fog settles, through live broadcasts and social media such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The awareness tips urge motorists to avoid overtaking other vehicles and to avoid other driving errors, such as using the hazard lights while driving in the fog, which may lead to traffic accidents.

Council of Arab Ministers Calls for Availing of the Security Media Experiences in the UAE
During the Meeting of the Work Teams Assigned to Establish the Sixth Security Awareness Plan
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Monday, December 29th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The work team assigned to assess and establish the annual Arab Media Plan, operating under the umbrella of the Secretariat General of the Council of Arab Ministries for Internal Affairs, stressed the importance of leveraging the experiences and expertise garnered by the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior in the UAE. This recommendation was issued in view of the positive outcomes and impacts of the Emirati Security Media Department’s performance, its efficiency and modern methods; especially in the fields of digital media and social networking, as well as its high-level transparency and professionalism.
Participants at the meeting hailed the leading role played by the Emirati police and its ongoing quest to gain the confidence of the public and maintain the integrity, accuracy and speed of response of its media. The meeting, which was organized by the Secretariat General of the Council of Arab Ministries of Internal Affairs in the Tunisian capital, Tunis, was attended by representatives of security media, public relations, and orientations departments at the Arab Ministries of Interior.
Lieutenant Colonel Saeed Al Khajah, Deputy Director of Tactical Affairs and Security Media Department at the Abu Dhabi Police, Head of the Security Media delegation, was elected to chair the meeting. During the meeting, the previous fifth Arab Media Plans for Security Awareness and Crime Prevention was discussed; and the draft Sixth Arab Media Plan was approved, with participation from Naif University for Security Sciences and the Secretariat General of the Council of Arab Ministries of Internal Affairs.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Khajah called for activating e–linking between security media departments in the member countries, to achieve further interaction and exchange of knowledge and expertise. He also stressed the need to intensify consultative meetings in order to promote interpersonal relations and attain the best practices in addressing security issues, awareness drives, and challenges facing the peoples and governments of the region.
He reiterated the keenness of the UAE’s leadership to provide several support channels and preventive methods to protect society and build its defenses it against negative and destructive ideals, which aim at undermining the safety and stability of the communities and doing damage to their national gains and achievements.
Media Expert Abdullah Shahin at Abu Dhabi Police, called upon preachers, clerics, muftis and dawah sheikhs to play a bigger role and assume their social responsibility to spread cultural enlightenment and awareness about the dangers of crime and extremism, eradicate its ideological sources and preach tolerance among people. He criticized some religious satellite channels, which are tarnishing the cultural aspect of Islam, and waste their time and energy on highlighting supernatural and superficial topics such as “magic, sorcery and Djinn” instead of discussing the current crucial topics that compromise the safety of the people and the stability of life in real world.
The sixth Media Plan for 2015, established by the Secretariat General of the Council and approved by the members, included a number of goals, most notably, promoting the spirit of citizenship, loyalty and patriotism and boosting the spirit of partnership and social cohesion. This can be achieved by establishing the modern concepts of security as a social responsibility, and instilling the tolerant religious ideals and virtuous humanitarian principles. The sixth Media Plan will also encourage righteous social behaviors that call for rejecting violence and extremism, uncover suspicious backgrounds and authorities as well as ideological, political and social misleading and destructive da’was that make use of modern scientific methods; in addition to working on improving the stereotypical perception of the role played by security bodies and their constructive efforts and sacrifices in order to fulfill their duties and sacred mission.
The plan also stressed the importance of cooperation with media outlets and the need to encourage them to pursue and intensify their efforts in educating and elevating the sense of security among the public, in the framework of professional standards and media honor codes. It also stresses the importance of cooperation with various educational and religious institutes, houses of worship, development and socialization institutions, youth care, labor unions and many others.
The Emirati delegation included Major Saeed Suhail Al Mazroui, Chief of the Public Relations Section at the Western Region Police Directorate; Captain Ahmed Naseeb Al Mansouri, Chief of the Strategic Planning Section; and Abdullah Shahin, Media Expert and Press Branch Manager at Security Media Department.
The meeting was also attended by Major General Falah Mashari, Asst. Secretary General at the General Secretariat of the Council; Mohamed Nabil Obaid, Consultant of the Secretary General; Dr. Mohamed Baba Salamah, Director of the Secretary General’s office; Dr. Mohamed Al Omairy, from Naif University; Colonel Jamal Hanoon, Director of Public Relations at the Egyptian Police.

LONDON - Monday, December 29th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
IBC Content Everywhere MENA 2015
(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Visitors to January's IBC Content Everywhere MENA will be able to feast their eyes on Super Hi-Vision, the latest video technology from Japanese national broadcaster NHK, which features 16-times the resolution of currently available HD TV. The technology is set to be demonstrated in the Middle East for the very first time.
For those who prefer to measure their resolution in cinematic terms, at 8K, or 7680 x 4320 pixels, the format offers double the resolution of 4K theatre releases like The Dark Knight Rises or Skyfall. It also runs at 120 frames per second - twice the frame rate of HD - resulting in a seamless picture with astonishing depth and reality quite unlike anything seen before.
Since 2006, NHK has showcased the technology at the annual IBC show in Amsterdam, where observers have been stunned to note that, from a Super Hi-Vision camera planted high on the rooftops of the city, they were able to make out specks of dust on the spokes of the bikes parked by the canal below.
NHK is now bringing its Super Hi-Vision demonstration to the Middle East as part of IBC Content Everywhere MENA. It will be demonstrating a host of eye-popping footage including live footage it shot at the 2014 World Cup Finals in Brazil, demonstrations of the technology's use in museum or educational spaces, and specially-shot footage designed to wow viewers by taking the technology to its very limits.
IBC has, for 40 years, been a key go to point for all things production and broadcast-related, and is best known for its annual industry gathering in Amsterdam. All year round however, it keeps busy at the forefront of developing technologies. IBC Content Everywhere is the latest strand to the format, embracing the developing spheres of mobile media, cloud technology, apps and social media. IBC Content Everywhere debuted at IBC's Amsterdam show in September 2014.
IBC Content Everywhere MENA marks the first global expansion for the new brand, aimed at the rapidly growing Middle East and North Africa market, and future events are also planned for Latin America and Europe again in 2015.
The Super Hi-Vision Theatre will be at the heart of IBC Content Everywhere MENA, and IBC CEO Michael Crimp comments: “The display of Super Hi-Vision complements today’s connected environment with a vision of the future where massive, high resolution screens will be a part of the media landscape.”
Exhibitors at the inaugural IBC Content Everywhere MENA event range from creative broadcast suppliers like Quantel to IT giants like Cisco; content distribution networks like Akamai to telecom service providers like Etisalat. Conference speakers include senior executives from broadcasters including Discovery Networks, BeIN and Sky News Arabia; and vendors and service providers such as Microsoft, Ericsson and YouTube.
IBC Content Everywhere MENA will be held in the Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai, 20 – 22 January 2015. Further information and registration details can be found at www.ibcce.org/MENA. Registration for the event is free and includes access to the full three day conference and exhibition. An Executive Gold Pass experience is available to purchase at an Early Bird discounted rate where delegates can save $450 on this exclusive pass.

ADP Traffic Directorate Warns of Transporting Gas Cylinders in Unlicensed Vehicles
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, December 27th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police warned motorists of the dangers associated with transporting gas cylinders in private or unlicensed vehicles that are not labeled with warning signs. Random gas transport poses a serious threat to other road users and may cause a disaster and tragic human losses as the cylinders could explode in the event of a collision.
The directorate also stressed the importance of abiding by the rules of safe gas transport, in accordance with the approved regulations; adding that vehicles should be of a specific color; have an open roof and be labeled with warning signs that alert others that the vehicle is carrying flammable materials. A fire extinguisher should also be readily available inside these vehicles and must be checked regularly to ensure it is in proper working condition.
The directorate announced that it will be intensifying control to detect any unauthorized transport of gas cylinders in private or unlicensed vehicles. The directorate also called upon companies and individuals not to deal with such irresponsible and greedy vendors who violate the approved regulations of safe gas cylinder transport who endanger their lives and the lives and safety of others for monetary gains.
To this end, the directorate recently held a coordinative meeting with a number of government authorities in Al Ain. During the meeting, chaired by Major Matar Mohamed Al Muhairi, Acting Chief of Al Ain Traffic Section, attendees discussed safe transport standards of gas cylinders, as well as the illegal trade of cooking gas cylinders in private vehicles, which may cause tragic accidents. Representatives of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the Civil Defense took part in the meeting.
The meeting also tackled the means of boosting safety of road users and other topics related to safe transportation of gas cylinders; in addition to ways to curb illegal transport and trade of gas cylinders in unlicensed or non-conforming vehicles. Attendees agreed on the need to intensify traffic control and monitoring and to enforce severe punishment on those who put the lives of road users at risk.

Yealink Wins Middle East ‘Best VoIP Vendor’ Award
Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Friday, December 26th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
Recently appointed as the world’s second largest SIP phone provider, Yealink, have won the 2014 Best VoIP Vendor title against an impressive open field of other vendors, distributors, resellers, system integrators and power retailers who are judged to have demonstrated a definite leadership role in the previous 12 months.
For the third year running, Reseller Middle East has identified 50 channel players who have successfully generated genuine extra value for their customers and profits for themselves and their partners.
Their distributor in the Middle East DVCOM Technology commented on this joyous occasion “We are honored to have received this title and be associated with a brand that’s driven to innovate itself while offering quality technological solutions” said Mr. Renjan George, the Managing Director of DVCOM Technology.
Yealink has invested considerable resources over the years to develop the qualities that it’s extremely pleased customer-users and industry experts now recognize.
The company’s focus is on the principle that employers, staff, partners and customers who often work many miles, and even continents apart should be able to communicate clearly from their desktops or mobile devices at a low-cost with a clarity that matches face-to-face meetings or conferences.
In addition to call quality, Yealink also works hard to ensure not only full-compatibility with the comprehensive range of products now on the market, but also leading partner services in UC and emerging cloud technologies.
Reseller Middle East recently held its ‘HOT 50’ annual awards ceremony in Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai. The emphasis was on companies that had gone over and above what would normally be expected on them to serve and support customers and clients.

IBC Content Everywhere and NHK Bring 8K Television to the Middle East
Super Hi-Vision to be demonstrated and discussed at launch event in Dubai in January 2015
London - Monday, December 29th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
IBC Content Everywhere MENA 2015
(BUSINESS WIRE) - IBC Content Everywhere is a new series of global events addressing the latest developments in media. With digital out-of-home presentations and high quality acquisition high on the list of current trends, IBC Content Everywhere will bring NHK’s Super Hi-Vision system to the Middle East for the first time.
Super Hi-Vision is an 8K television system, featuring 16 times the resolution of today’s HD, together with a much higher frame rate of 120 progressive images a second. Developed by Japanese national broadcaster NHK, it is aimed at both consumers and at events and presentations such as museums.
NHK plans trial satellite broadcasts in 2016, with the launch of public services set for 2018. It is one of the most important initiatives in future television systems, firing the debate over higher resolutions, extended colour capabilities and higher frame rates. The demonstration at IBC Content Everywhere MENA gives broadcasters and network operators a chance to see the capabilities, as well as discuss the challenges of transmitting this high data-rate system.
This ultra-high resolution video also looks astonishing on a huge screen. Even the biggest projections look bright, rich and detailed. Coupled with the high frame rate, it creates an impression like no other. Cinemas, museums and presentation companies will instantly grasp the potential for this crowd-stopping, eye-popping system.
At IBC Content Everywhere MENA NHK will be showing some of the latest content they have shot. This includes remarkable coverage of games at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil, as well as some specially shot material for art galleries and museums in Japan.
IBC Content Everywhere is a new initiative from IBC, bringing together all those involved in rich media production, devices, apps, content personalisation, social media, and big data and cloud services. The first event ran in parallel with IBC in Amsterdam in September 2014, with the second, aimed at the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) market to be held in Dubai 20 – 22 January 2015.
“We have developed IBC Content Everywhere to address the emergence of connected content,” said Michael Crimp, CEO of IBC. “Our event in the Middle East will share knowledge about how content can be created, managed, monetised and shared online and to mobile and connected devices. The display of Super Hi-Vision complements today’s connected environment with a vision of the future where massive, high resolution screens will be a part of the media landscape”
Super Hi-Visiton has had a long association with IBC, starting with the first European demonstration in 2006, and marking many technical milestones with presentations at IBC since then.
Exhibitors at IBC Content Everywhere MENA in Dubai range from creative broadcast suppliers like Quantel to IT giants like Cisco; content distribution networks like Akamai to telecom service providers like Etisalat. Conference speakers include senior executives from broadcasters like Discovery Networks, BeIN and Sky News Arabia; and vendors and service providers like Microsoft, Ericsson and YouTube.

SES: ASTRA 2G Satellite Roars into Orbit
SES satellite to be deployed into 28.2/28.5 degrees East orbital arc
BAIKONUR, Kazakhstan & LUXEMBOURG - Sunday, December 28th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE) - SES S.A. (NYSE Paris:SESG) (LuxX:SESG) announces that the ASTRA 2G satellite roared into space on board an ILS Proton Breeze M booster last night at 03:37:49 Baikonur time (22:37:49 CET and 16:37:49 EST on December 27). After a 9-hour, 12-minute mission, the Breeze M upper stage of the Proton rocket successfully released the ASTRA 2G satellite into geostationary transfer orbit.
ASTRA 2G will be deployed at the 28.2/28.5 degrees orbital arc. The satellite was built for SES by Airbus Defence and Space. Based on the highly reliable Eurostar E3000 platform, the spacecraft carries 62 Ku-band transponders, as well as 4 Ka-band transponders. It will enable the delivery of next generation broadcast and broadband services in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. ASTRA 2G, which had a launch mass of 6 tons, will feature a wingspan of 40 meters once its solar arrays are deployed in orbit, generating 13 kW of spacecraft power at the end of its 15-year design lifetime.
Martin Halliwell, Chief Technology Officer of SES stated, “We would like to congratulate Airbus Defence and Space and ILS for the successful ASTRA 2G mission, a launch that marks the 24th SES satellite to be launched by ILS Proton, and the ninth Eurostar satellite in the SES fleet. The ASTRA 2G satellite completes our significant replacement investments at a strategic orbital neighbourhood over Europe and provides 10 incremental transponders for expansion while cementing our unique co-positioning satellite back-up-scheme.”
Detailing the programme, Halliwell added, “The spacecraft furthermore includes the capability to connect West Africa to Europe via Ka-band. In combination with ASTRA 2E and ASTRA 2F which were launched in September 2012 and 2013 respectively, ASTRA 2G is the culmination of our fleet renewal programme at the 28.2/28.5 degrees orbital arc. The new state-of-the-art SES satellites provide more focused and higher power to our broadcast customers, while the Ka-band on board supports the delivery of next-generation satellite broadband services as well as intercontinental connectivity between Africa and Europe.”
With the launch of ASTRA 2G, SES also supports SATMED, an e-health platform aimed to improve public health in emerging and developing countries, most significantly in isolated areas with poor connectivity. SATMED enables communication between doctors, thus enabling. the transfer and exchange of medical knowledge and supporting tools for medical e-learning and e-teaching. The satellite-based solution is developed by SES and supported by the Luxembourg Government and the Ministry for Cooperation and Humanitarian Action.
