eDP TCONs Answer Market Demand for Higher Resolution and Ultra-Low Power Consumption in Today’s Mobile Displays
SANTA CLARA, Calif - Tuesday, September 9th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Analogix Semiconductor, Inc. today announced the availability of its eDP (embedded DisplayPort) mainstream TCONs (Timing Controllers) and Ultra-HD resolution PSR-enabled TCONs (Timing Controllers), which allow mobile device manufacturers to extend battery life under any usage conditions, while providing a continuous flow of high-quality video to increasingly higher-resolution mobile displays.
eDP is architected for mobile, simultaneously reducing power consumed in both the CPU and the mobile display. In addition, the TCONs feature high-speed point-to-point interfaces to maximize the resolution and dot pitch of the glass.
The new mainstream eDP TCONs, ANX1701 and ANX1772, utilize the Analogix Gapless™ architecture to minimize the power consumption of high-resolution mobile displays, while providing continuous flow of video to the display, regardless of the state of the CPU, GPU, battery or other components in the system.
The Ultra-HD resolution TCONs with PSR (Panel Self-Refresh) capability, ANX2875 and ANX2806, optimize the mobile display’s performance and extend its battery life. PSR is a feature of eDP version 1.3 and works by storing the video in a buffer, thereby allowing the GPU to power down during light usage, significantly reducing the average power consumed in these models.
“High-end smartphones are expected to have screen resolutions of Full HD (1920 x 1080) or higher. At these high resolutions the most efficient way to transfer high-resolution video from the CPU to the mobile screen is through eDP, which delivers the best video quality while minimizing the power consumed for each and every pixel,” said Andre Bouwer, vice president of marketing for Analogix.
Solutions featuring Analogix latest eDP TCON technology are on display at this week’s Intel Developer Forum (IDF) 2014, Analogix Booth #752.
