Thales and Inetum Deliver Smarter Border Management at Spanish Valencia and Bilbao Airports

 • Thales and Inetum provide joint expertise to deliver greater security and convenience at the airports of Valencia and Bilbao, and before long at Fuerteventura.

• Smart accesses improve the border control process with higher agility and security.

• New system facilitates operations for the officers of the National Police

MADRID-Wednesday 31 March 2021 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Thales, leader in digital security, and Inetum, European leader in digital services and solutions, provide the airports of Valencia and Bilbao with more than 45 Automatic Border Control gates (ABC Gates) leveraging facial recognition and automatic document verification. Thales is responsible for the identity verification and smart access control, while Inetum implements manual verifiers and the real-time monitoring system. Both companies collaborated on the integration and installation in the airports.

These new smart access points have already been in operation since July at Valencia and Bilbao Airports, in which passengers have already been able to verify greater agility. The system is key for National Police officers since it simplifies their operations. Fuerteventura airport is also currently in the deployment phase and will have 36 ABC Gates.

Automatic controls improve performance by providing agility, security and convenience when performing biometric identity checks inside the police databases. The officers remain in full control of operations and can proceed with extra security controls if necessary.

"This technology eases passenger management at borders by verifying the traveler’s identity and travel documents, including biometric checks. The new system ultimately speeds up the identification process," explains Juan Carlos Crespo, Inetum's Deputy General Manager for Iberia & Latam areas.

“We are proud to support the work of the National Police and AENA, by creating a safe and agile airport environment, without compromising the traveller experience,” says Jesús Sánchez Bargos, Country Director and CEO of Thales Spain.

Thales has strong international experience in smart border management at airports. Our references span 20 countries including France and Switzerland. The company is also responsible for comprehensive border control systems, including airports, ports and border crossings for multiple countries.

The LYCRA Company and ITOCHU Corporation Introduce COOLMAX® and THERMOLITE® EcoMade Fibers Made from 100% Textile Waste

 WILMINGTON, Del.-Wednesday 31 March 2021 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- The LYCRA Company, a global leader in fiber and textile solutions for the apparel industry, is pleased to announce the launch of its first performance offerings made from 100% textile waste. COOLMAX® and THERMOLITE® EcoMade fibers made from textile waste are the result of a strategic collaboration between The LYCRA Company and ITOCHU Corporation, a general trading company with strength in consumer-related sectors, including the textile business. The new offerings pair the brand equity and performance attributes of these leading cooling and warming brands with the sustainability benefits of textile waste, thus helping address a critical industry need.

“We are pleased to announce our alliance with ITOCHU in helping to address textile waste, which represents a substantial sustainability challenge as the equivalent of one garbage truck of textiles is sent to landfills or incinerated every second1,” said Julien Born, chief commercial officer for The LYCRA Company. “This collaboration exemplifies the synergistic approach we have to develop products and technologies that support a more sustainable future for our vast global customer base.” This is the first of several innovations that The LYCRA Company is working on in textile and garment recycling. Laying the groundwork for a more circular future is one of the key objectives of The LYCRA Company’s Planet Agenda Sustainability platform.

Integrating textile waste technology with COOLMAX® and THERMOLITE® fibers provides consumers with the performance attributes they seek, while making these industry-leading fibers in a new and responsible way. A unique depolymerization and refining process is used to convert textile waste, which consists of scraps from garment manufacturers, into fibers with properties comparable to virgin polyester. The new fibers are available in filament and staple forms, suitable for common textile processes and insulations batting uses.

The industry’s preeminent cooling and warming performance solutions, COOLMAX® and THERMOLITE® fibers, have been made from recycled raw materials such as recycled PET bottles for many years. The company will continue to offer these products in parallel with those made from textile waste.

These new products can be purchased from The LYCRA Company, except in Japan where ITOCHU will be responsible for sales and marketing. A variety of mills have access to the new offerings and will shortly begin to develop fabrics with them.

For additional information on COOLMAX® and THERMOLITE® fibers made from textile waste, visit coolmax.com and thermolite.com.

Annual Cyber Protection Week survey reveals post-pandemic paradox: more solutions do not bring better protection

Despite 80% of organizations running up to 10 different protection and cybersecurity solutions simultaneously, more than 50% of them experienced downtime from data loss last year

Dubai, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES-Wednesday 31 March 2021 [ AETOS Wire ]

Acronis, a global leader in cyber protection, today released the findings of its second annual Cyber Protection Week survey, which uncovered a dangerous disconnect between the need for organizations to keep their data protected and the ineffective investments they’ve made trying to reach that goal.

While 2020 saw companies purchase new systems to enable and secure remote workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, those investments are not paying off. The global survey discovered that 80% of companies now run as many as 10 solutions simultaneously for their data protection and cybersecurity needs – yet more than half of those organizations suffered unexpected downtime last year because of data loss.

The findings from Acronis’ annual survey, which polled 4,400 IT users and professionals in 22 countries across six continents, dispel the myth that simply adding more solutions will solve cybersecurity and data protection challenges. Not only does investing in more solutions not deliver more protection, in many cases trying to manage protection across multiple solutions creates greater complexity and less visibility for the IT team, which increases risk.

“This year’s Cyber Protection Week survey clearly illustrates that more solutions do not deliver greater protection, as using separate tools to address individual types of exposure is complicated, inefficient, and costly,” said Serguei “SB” Beloussov, Founder and CEO of Acronis. “These findings confirm our belief that the smarter approach is cyber protection, which unifies data protection, cybersecurity, and endpoint management in one.”

Knowledge gap contributes to IT challenges

Complicating matters, there is a significant gap in awareness among users and IT pros of what IT and cybersecurity capabilities are available to them, which can cause them to lose valuable time, money, and security.

68% of IT users and 20% of IT professionals would not know if their data had been modified without their knowledge because their solution makes determining that kind of tampering difficult.

43% of IT users don’t know if their anti-malware stops zero-day threats because their solution doesn’t make that information easily available. Having easy access to such cybersecurity insights is critical to ensuring data is protected.

A shocking 10% of IT pros don’t know if their organization is subject to data privacy regulations. If those responsible for ensuring data privacy don’t know they are culpable, they cannot implement strategies or evaluate the solutions needed to address the requirements. That ignorance puts the business at tremendous risk of major fines for potential compliance violations in 2021.

For anyone using multiple solutions to solve their IT and cybersecurity needs, the lack of transparency into such information only gets worse. Not only must they remember which solution provides a particular data point, they are constantly switching between consoles to find the details they need – leading to inefficiencies and missed insights.

Acronis has long recognized the cost, efficiency, and security challenges that arise from using multiple solutions, which is why the company pioneered the field of cyber protection, integrating cutting-edge cybersecurity, best-of-breed backup, and endpoint management in a single solution. Managed service providers can build their IT services on Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, while businesses can gain the same unified capabilities with the company’s on-premises solution, Acronis Cyber Protect 15.

Individuals’ lax approach to protection

The survey also revealed a staggeringly lax approach to data protection among IT users.

83% of IT users spent more time on their devices last year, yet only half of them took extra steps to protect those devices

33% admit to not updating their devices until at least a week after being notified of a patch

90% of IT users reported performing backups, yet 73% have irretrievably lost data at least once, suggesting that they don’t know how to back up or recover properly

The efforts of individuals to protect their data aren’t keeping pace with threats, which is likely due to false assumptions (such as believing Microsoft 365 backs up their data) or a reliance on automatic solutions.

Individual IT users can gain the same integrated cyber protection as MSPs and IT professionals with Acronis True Image 2021, the first personal cyber protection solution that unites AI-enhanced anti-malware and award-winning backup in one.

Action items for Cyber Protection Week

The challenges of protecting and securing data, applications, and systems will continue to grow in the post-pandemic world. To ensure that data is protected, Acronis recommends five simple steps:

Create backups of important data. Keep multiple copies of your backups, with one local copy for fast recovery and one off-site in the cloud to guarantee recovery if disaster destroys your copies.

Update your operating systems and applications. Outdated systems and apps lack the security fixes that stop cybercriminals from gaining access. Regular patching is required to avoid exploits.
Avoid suspicious emails, links, and attachments. Most malware infections are the result of social engineering techniques that trick unsuspecting individuals into opening infected email attachments or clicking on links to websites that host malware.
Install antivirus, anti-malware, and anti-ransomware software while enabling automatic updates so your system is protected against malware.
Consider adopting a single cyber protection solution to have the central management and integrated protection needed to meet today’s IT requirements.

Study Shows House Wellness Foods’ Breakthrough Feed LP20® Can Advance the Potential of Rivers and Seas to Feed Our Emerging World

 TOKYO-Wednesday 31 March 2021 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Vietnam is a nation that has seen its share of turmoil and suffering over the past century, and emerged from it with strength, enthusiasm, dedicated to progress and self-sufficiency. Over the past 50 years its participation on the global stage has steadily risen, with ever-increased attention to commerce, health, and education.

A recently released study on the efficacy of House Wellness Foods’ Feed LP20® in combating piscine disease factors can be seen as a glimmer of light along the pathway to Vietnam’s bright future.

As much as 35% of Vietnam’s aquacultural activity is built around river farming of the juvenile striped catfish [Pangasianodon hypophthalmus], making it the world’s largest producer of this nutritious staple, not only for its own consumption but for export to China, Europe, and elsewhere.

Vietnam’s story is one of many that expose the dual edge of farming to emerging populations. It’s been the keystone of civilization’s advancement since the dawn of humankind, but where resources are limited and need is great, farming’s potential hazards become viciously clear. Overstocked waters turn hazardous to human life due to excessive waste production and a rise in bacteria, parasites, fungi, and viruses. Overstocked waters produce fish that are increasingly malnourished, enervated, injured, and unable to reproduce.

The reflex response to this blight has been the use of antibiotics to keep weakened fish populations alive. Apart from expense, before long, disease-inducing agents mutate to resist the antibiotic, which, in turn, leads to the use of more varied antibiotics, causing a dangerous downward spiral. All the while antibiotics are entering the food chain and turning up in the human metabolic system to unpredictable, deleterious effect. Promise quickly turns to peril for the farmer, for the consumer, and for the future of vital aquaculture.

Feed LP20® can reverse this tide…

The details of this new study show its dramatic impact. In summary, researchers fed test stocks a diet supplemented with heat-killed Lactobacillus plantarum, strain L-137, the active ingredient in Feed LP20®. Key to the high effectiveness of Feed LP20® is the heat-killing process. It fully utilizes the strain’s characteristics, an area where House Wellness Foods holds an unparalleled position of authority based upon years of peer-reviewed testing and research, and continuous refinement of the development process. Heat treatment hardens bacillary cell walls and fixes their genetic material. Not only does this enable HK-L137 to resist initial breakdown in the upper gastric system, but it can be cooked, processed, stored, and administered in an aquatic environment without compromising potency. Further, both its ability to stimulate immune cytokine interleukin 12 and its shelf life far surpass that of any living lactobacillus supplement.

House Wellness Foods and the introduction of immunobiotics

Immunobiotics promote health by triggering immune responses in the mucosa. House Wellness Foods, one of Japan’s most trusted names in food production, began its exploration of immunobiotics and their ability to bolster human immune response, support liver function, and ameliorate the causes of chronic disease over three decades ago, and the culmination of their intensive research and meticulous development was their flagship Immuno-LP20®, with its active component of 20% heat-treated Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 (HK-L137). This potent lactobacillus follows a dual course on assimilation. It initiates production of signal molecule IL-12 and IFN-β cells — the latter being the most important single cytokine responsible for inhibiting viral multiplication; and it subsequently stimulates T cell activity and the production of both NK and cytotoxic T (CTL) effector cells, boosting innate immunity and fostering antibody creation as an adjunct to the adaptive immune response.

House followed the worldwide success of Immuno-LP20®, with the development of Feed LP20®, an alternative to antibiotics, and to the costly, unreliable, and lengthy process of cultivating disease-resistant strains of livestock. The overarching principle of immunobiotic therapy in both land-based and aquatic livestock is that the power to fight disease already exists within every living cell of the organism. Prior to the present study, Feed LP20® proved its remarkable effectiveness in other aquatic stock, including white leg shrimp and Nile tilapia. It recently began marketing in the EU as a complementary feed for poultry, swine, and salmonid.

The proof is in the food chain

The study shows that juvenile striped catfish fed HK-L137-supplemented diets exhibited higher final weight and specific growth rate than controlled stock given ordinary feed. The fish showed higher survival rate, longer life, better feed conversion ratios, weight gain, better protein efficiency ratios, and increased reproductive capacity. Further, a test sub-group was administered a bacterial challenge mirroring a real-life scenario in Vietnamese river farms of their most devastating bacterial threat, Bacillary Necrosis Disease (BNP), caused by the bacterial agent Edwardsiella ictaluri. Part of the test group was injected with this agent, and in every case the cumulative mortality of HK L-137-supplemented groups was lower than the group fed control diet.

Fitter fish, more successful farming, greater financial stability — all of this originating from the power of Feed LP20®, comprising 20% HK-L137, to sustain health through enhanced immunity at the very cellular level. The new study shows the promise of House Wellness Foods’ Breakthrough Feed LP20®, and points to the future of a shared world that is often fragile, yet always filled with hope.

Follow this link for a documentary that demonstrates the value of the certification system through the stories of foreign chefs attempting the test for Gold Certification, the system’s highest outlined standard.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has established Guidelines for the Certification of Cooking Skills for Japanese Cuisine in Foreign Countries as of April 2016.

This system lays out specific standards that private bodies may use to recognize foreign chefs who have acquired given levels of knowledge and cooking skills necessary for the preparation of Japanese cuisine, to help ensure that the appeals of Japanese food and dietary culture, as well as of Japanese agricultural and marine products, are appropriately and effectively communicated throughout the world.*

And through it, the private sector is able to position itself as a driving force in promoting efforts to certify Japanese cuisine cooking skills, increasing the number of certified individuals, and fostering further growth in foreign chefs who have acquired the appropriate knowledge and skills for preparation of Japanese cuisine, all with the ultimate goal of further strengthening the global reputation of Japanese food and dietary culture and expanding consumption of Japanese agricultural and marine products.

To that end, TOW Co., Ltd. is actively engaged as the Application/Management Body of the Certification System. As of March 2021, it has approbated 11 certifying bodies, which have in turn recognized 14 individual chefs as meeting Gold Certification standards, 187 meeting Silver, and 389 meeting Bronze.

Though the COVID-19 pandemic has dealt a significant blow to the food service industry worldwide, TOW Co., Ltd. remains committed to carrying out its missions, and to encouraging all foreign chefs aspiring to obtain the knowledge and skills to properly prepare Japanese cuisine. It is our hope that the creation and sharing of this video introducing the System for Certification of Cooking Skills for Japanese Cuisine will help fulfill those goals.

VFMCRP and Cara Therapeutics announce European Medicines Agency has accepted to review the Marketing Authorization Application for difelikefalin

  • Companies have successfully submitted the EU regulatory application for marketing authorization for difelikefalin

• If approved, difelikefalin injection will be the first therapy available in Europe for treatment of pruritus associated with chronic kidney disease in hemodialysis patients

ST.GALLEN, Switzerland & STAMFORD, Conn.-Tuesday 30 March 2021 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Regulatory News:

Vifor Fresenius Medical Care Renal Pharma (VFMCRP) and Cara Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: CARA) today announced that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) accepted to review the Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) for difelikefalin injection for the treatment of pruritus associated with chronic kidney disease in hemodialysis patients. The EMA will review the application under the centralized marketing authorization procedure.

The EMA filing is supported by positive clinical data from the two pivotal phase-III trials KALM-1 and KALM-2, as well as supportive data from an additional 32 clinical studies. If approved, difelikefalin would receive marketing authorization in all member states of the European Union (EU), as well as in Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. EMA’s decision on the EU MAA is expected Q2-2022.

“Following the US FDA’s acceptance and priority review for the New Drug Application for difelikefalin at the beginning of March 2021, this is another major step forward on our mission to help kidney patients around the world lead better, healthier lives,” commented Stefan Schulze, CEO of Vifor Pharma Group. “Together with our partner Cara Therapeutics, we remain focused on making this innovative therapy available in Europe, if approved, for patients with chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus, a condition that has been historically underdiagnosed and undertreated.”

“The acceptance of the EU regulatory application for difelikefalin marks another major milestone towards our goal of bringing this first-in-class therapeutic to the significant number of hemodialysis patients worldwide with chronic intractable pruritus,” said Derek Chalmers, Ph.D., D.Sc., President and Chief Executive Officer of Cara Therapeutics. “We look forward to working closely with our partner, Vifor Pharma, through the EMA review process and in preparation for commercial launch across European territories, if approved.”

About Cara Therapeutics
Cara Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing new chemical entities designed to alleviate pruritus by selectively targeting peripheral kappa opioid receptors, or KORs. Cara is developing a novel and proprietary class of product candidates, led by KORSUVA™ (CR845/difelikefalin), a first-in-class KOR agonist that targets the body’s peripheral nervous system, as well as certain immune cells. In two Phase 3 trials, KORSUVA injection has demonstrated statistically significant reductions in itch intensity and concomitant improvement in quality of life measures in hemodialysis patients with moderate-to-severe chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP). Oral KORSUVA™ has successfully completed a Phase 2 trial for the treatment of pruritus in patients with CKD and is currently in Phase 2 trials in atopic dermatitis, primary biliary cholangitis and notalgia paresthetica patients with moderate-to-severe pruritus.

About Chronic Kidney Disease-associated Pruritus (CKD-aP)
CKD-aP is an intractable systemic itch condition that occurs with high frequency and intensity in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis. Pruritus has also been reported in patients with stage III-V CKD who are not on dialysis. The majority of dialysis patients (approximately 60 to 70%) report pruritus, with 30 to 40% reporting moderate or severe pruritus.1,2,3 Recent data from the ITCH National Registry Study showed that among those with pruritus, approximately 59% experienced symptoms daily or nearly daily for more than a year. Given its association with CKD/ESRD, most afflicted patients will continue to have symptoms for months or years, with currently employed antipruritic treatments, such as antihistamines and corticosteroids, unable to provide consistent, adequate relief. Moderate-to-severe chronic pruritus has repeatedly been shown to directly decrease quality of life, contribute to symptoms that impair quality of life (such as poor sleep quality), and is associated with depression.4 CKD-aP is also an independent predictor of mortality and the risk for hospitalization among hemodialysis patients.

Examples of these forward-looking statements include statements concerning the potential regulatory approval of difelikefalin solution for injection and the potential timeline for EMA review and approval of the MAA and the potential of difelikefalin solution for injection to be a therapeutic option for CKD-aP in dialysis dependent patients. Perspectum: High Liver Fat (Hepatic Steatosis) Linked to Increased Risk of Hospitalization in COVID-19 Patients With Obesity

Breakthrough non-invasive liver imaging helps identify patients at increased risk of severe disease

OXFORD, England-Tuesday 30 March 2021 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- New research published this month in Frontiers in Medicine (Gastroenterology) reveals that individuals with both obesity and severe fatty liver are five times more likely to require hospitalization for the illness. The non-invasive liver imaging technology — Perspectum’s LiverMultiScan — was used to gather MRI scans for the study.

Obesity is often associated with fat accumulation in the liver, which can lead to liver disease, and emerging data suggests that patients with obesity are at an increased risk of becoming seriously ill with COVID-19. The World Obesity Federation summarizes recent reports suggesting in the US almost 50 percent of people hospitalized with COVID-19 were also affected by obesity. A new report from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S.A.) indicates 78 percent of people who were hospitalized, placed on a ventilator or died from COVID-19 were overweight or obese.

The results of the imaging study, which explored whether having excess liver fat could influence severity of COVID-19 in obese individuals, showed that individuals with both obesity as well as fatty liver were five times more likely to require hospitalization for COVID-19. Notably, individuals with obesity and normal liver fat were not at increased risk of being hospitalized.

“Some individuals with obesity have a normal level of liver fat and some non-obese individuals have high levels of liver fat. It is pertinent to establish whether pre-existing liver disease increases the risk of severe COVID-19 and how this relates to obesity,” says Adriana Roca-Fernandez, first author and scientist at Perspectum, the company developing LiverMultiScan. “Measurement of liver fat and detection of liver disease can be achieved using non-invasive imaging methods such as Perspectum’s well-validated, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology to help identify patients with COVID-19 who are at increased risk of severe disease.”

Understanding the contribution of liver fat to COVID-19 risk and outcomes is important for clinical understanding and management of COVID-19 and long COVID. The study, “Hepatic Steatosis Rather Than Underlying Obesity Increases Risk of Infection and Hospitalization for COVID-19,” Roca-Fernandez et al., 2021, also confirmed some previously reported risk factors for contracting COVID-19, such as being a male and having a lower socio-economic status. In addition, this study showed that the participants who had tested positive for COVID-19 were more likely to have higher liver fat. The MRI data were acquired before the COVID-19 pandemic by the UK Biobank, one of the largest biomedical databases in the world, and included 4,458 people who had later been tested for COVID-19.

According to Dr. Arun Sanyal, Virginia Commonwealth University, one of the authors of the study, “The current study demonstrates pre-existing fatty liver disease is an independent risk factor for development of severe disease in those with COVID-19. This raises important questions about the role of hepatic steatosis and related liver injury as a disease modifying factor. These data highlight the public health relevance of NAFLD beyond cardiovascular, cancer and liver outcomes and provide a strong rationale for future studies to evaluate whether de-fatting the liver will reduce the likelihood of severe COVID-19 in affected individuals.”

“Determining all risk factors for increased severity of COVID-19 is crucial to help shape public policy measures to protect these high-risk individuals, such as social distancing, prioritization of people for vaccinations, and access to personalized medicine to guide clinical and lifestyle interventions,” adds Roca- Fernandez.

Perspectum, a global medical technology company with offices in the U.K., the U.S. and Singapore, delivers leading digital technologies that help clinicians provide better care for patients with liver disease, diabetes and cancer. With a strong focus on precision medicine using advanced imaging and genetics, our vision is to empower patients and clinicians through quantitative assessments of health enabling early detection, diagnosis, and targeted treatment. With a diverse team of physicians, biomedical scientists, engineers and technologists, Perspectum offers a way to manage complex health problems at scale. For more information, visit perspectum.com.

Visa Becomes First Major Payments Network to Settle Transactions in USD Coin (USDC)

With the direct acceptance of payments in USD Coin, Visa forges new connections between digital and traditional currencies.

SAN FRANCISCO-Tuesday 30 March 2021 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Visa (NYSE: V) today announced a major industry first in bridging the worlds of digital and traditional fiat currencies: the use of USD Coin (USDC), a stablecoin backed by the US dollar, to settle a transaction with Visa over Ethereum—one of the most actively used open-source blockchains.1 Visa is piloting the capability with Crypto.com, a Visa partner and one of the world’s largest crypto platforms, and plans to offer the USDC settlement capability to additional partners later this year.

Support for digital currencies as a new type of settlement currency marks an important step forward for Visa’s network of networks strategy, which is designed to enhance all forms of money movement, whether on the Visa network, or beyond. By harnessing its global presence, partnership approach, and trusted brand, Visa is focused on adding differentiated value to the ecosystem and making cryptocurrencies more secure, useful, and applicable for payments.

Visa has spent the last year establishing a pathway for digital currency settlement within Visa’s existing treasury infrastructure, a platform that moves billions of dollars each day across thousands of institutions in more than 200 markets and 160 currencies. Working with Anchorage, the first federally chartered digital asset bank and an exclusive Visa digital currency settlement partner, Visa has launched a pilot that allows Crypto.com to send USDC to Visa to settle a portion of its obligations for the Crypto.com Visa card program.

Visa’s standard settlement process requires partners to settle in a traditional fiat currency, which can add cost and complexity for businesses built with digital currencies. The ability to settle in USDC can ultimately help Crypto.com and other crypto native companies evaluate fundamentally new business models without the need for traditional fiat in their treasury and settlement workflows. Visa’s treasury upgrades and integration with Anchorage also strengthen Visa’s ability to directly support new central bank digital currency (CBDC) as they emerge in the future.

“Crypto-native fintechs want partners who understand their business and the complexities of digital currency form factors,” said Jack Forestell, executive vice president and chief product officer, Visa. “The announcement today marks a major milestone in our ability to address the needs of fintechs managing their business in a stablecoin or cryptocurrency, and it’s really an extension of what we do every day, securely facilitating payments in all different currencies all across the world.”

Kris Marszalek, Co-founder and CEO of Crypto.com said: “We’ve seen record-breaking growth in our business and the broader crypto ecosystem over the last year. To continue accelerating the world’s transition to cryptocurrency, we need partners who understand the opportunity and the tools that will help us get to market faster and more efficiently. Having been a Visa partner for several years, we’re excited to deepen that relationship through our global agreement and to pioneer an exciting world-first in stablecoin payments.”

“Anchorage’s platform has been purposefully built for institutions like Visa to build new products in crypto. We’ve been with Visa every step of the way since 2019 and are extremely pleased to see these first stablecoin payment rails come to life through Anchorage APIs,” said Diogo Mónica, Co-Founder and President of Anchorage.

David Puth, CEO of Centre, which oversees the licensing of USDC, said: "Visa is leading the market with its innovative approach to payments in many forms. We are very impressed with their efforts. Having USDC on the Visa network is an outstanding next step in our mission to connect the world using stablecoins built on Centre standards, starting with USDC."

Thales Named as a Market Leader in KuppingerCole Analysts Leadership Compass for Database and Big Data Security

 • CipherTrust Data Security Platform is praised for its comprehensive database security capabilities, delivering a single platform for transparent encryption, data masking, and key management

• Thales’ next-generation platform awarded “strong positive” ratings for Security, Usability, and Deployment

PARIS LA DÉFENSE-Tuesday 30 March 2021 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Thales today announced that it has been named as a Market Leader in the 2021 KuppingerCole Leadership Compass for Database and Big Data Security.

The report recognised Thales’ leadership role within the data security market through its CipherTrust Data Security Platform. Thales’ flagship data security platform was praised for its data discovery and classification, transparent encryption, and database and application data protection. The report also commended CipherTrust’s data masking, tokenization, access controls, enterprise key management, and cloud key management functions.

“The CipherTrust Data Security Platform now provides a full range of data-centric security capabilities, including data discovery and classification, transparent encryption, database and application data protection, data masking, tokenization, access controls, enterprise key management, and cloud key management unified from a single management interface. Its unified, ubiquitous approach across all available IT environments enables multiple business-focused use cases beyond just compliance, including reduction of data security complexity, accelerating cloud migrations, and reducing data exposure risks significantly across whole enterprises,” said Alexi Balaganski, Lead Analyst at KuppingerCole.

With the accelerated move to the cloud and decentralisation of business operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, effective data security has become even more essential for safeguarding businesses against cybercrime. The Thales 2020 Data Threat Report reveals that 100% of businesses surveyed report that at least some of the sensitive data they are storing in the cloud is not encrypted. According to the report, only 54% of sensitive data in the cloud is protected by encryption and even less (44%) is protected by tokenisation. Despite this, a fifth of firms (20%) intend to reduce data security spend in the next year. A centralized data security platform, that protects data across all of an organization’s environments, can save an organization time and money while improving security compliance.

“Covid-19 has changed the way that we use, store, and access data. Hackers are looking for potential vulnerabilities to access this sensitive data in remote databases and big data arrays. Our CipherTrust Data Security Platform provides powerful and easy to use tools to discover, protect and control their data no matter where it resides.” said Todd Moore, Vice President of Encryption Solutions at Thales. “It’s hugely rewarding to be noted by KuppingerCole as a leader in database and big data security. This recognition illustrates Thales’s strong offering within the market and our continued commitment to meet our customers’ ever more complex data privacy needs.”

CipherTrust Data Security Platform is in a single platform dedicated to simplifying the data security compliance process that combines both Thales’s Vormetric and SafeNet KeySecure technologies. It was developed to unify data discovery, classification, and risk-analysis functions with encryption, access, data masking and key management to provide seamless and comprehensive protection from breaches.

Study Investigates the Impact of Automating Respiration Rate Measurement Using Masimo Rad-G™ with RRp®

NEUCHATEL, Switzerland -Monday 29 March 2021 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Masimo (NASDAQ: MASI) today announced the results of a prospective, observational study published in Acta Paediatrica in which researchers from the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto evaluated the accuracy of plethysmographic respiration rate measurement (RRp®) using Masimo Rad-G™, a rugged, handheld device, on malnourished, hospitalized children in Nigeria.1

Noting that in resource-limited environments, respiration rate (RR) measurement is often used to directly inform medical decisions for children with respiratory problems, but that manual RR counting “remains a challenge,” Dr. Nancy Dale and colleagues investigated whether a technological solution might provide a useful alternative to manual counting. To make the evaluation, the researchers compared simultaneous device measurements and nurse-measured manual RR counts on malnourished children. The device chosen was the Masimo Rad-G, which uses a pulse oximetry sensor to measure both oxygen saturation and RRp, and which has been shown to provide good agreement between RRp and pediatrician-measured RR.2 They enrolled 514 children, aged 6 to 59 months, who were hospitalized between July 2019 and May 2020, in Borno State, Nigeria. Study nurses were trained to operate Rad-G and also perform manual RR counts as part of twice-daily patient assessment. RR was manually counted for 60 seconds while Rad-G simultaneously measured RRp via a sensor attached to the patient’s toe, and both measurements were recorded.

Analyzing the 6,889 paired RR measurements, the researchers found that the mean Rad-G RRp reading was 1.3 bpm (95% confidence interval 1.2 – 1.4 bpm) higher than the mean manual RR value. The mean absolute difference between the two methods was 4.4 bpm (95% CI 4.3 – 4.5 bpm). When RR was classified as either “normal” or “fast” breathing (using WHO pneumonia thresholds), the two methods resulted in the same classification 84% of the time. When RR was classified according to BedsidePEWS RR sub-scoring (a 4-point scale), 80% of the scores were the same, and 99.3% were within 1 point.

The researchers concluded that their findings “highlight the potential clinical impact of changing practice from manual to automated RR count. Clinical implementation of the device should be carefully monitored to measure impact on patient outcomes.”

Study co-author Dr. Stanley Zlotkin commented, “Technical solutions to improve clinical care are laudable. We look forward to continuing this research.”

RRp is one of multiple RR monitoring modalities offered by Masimo, which also include acoustic respiration rate (RRa®) and NomoLine® capnography (RRc™), helping clinicians ensure they have the most suitable tool for each patient scenario.

First developed in partnership with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Rad-G is a rugged, handheld device that provides clinically proven Masimo SET® pulse oximetry, respiration rate (RRp), and other important parameters. With its long-lasting rechargeable battery, robust rubber casing, and light weight, Rad-G makes it easier for clinicians to quickly assess patients and make informed care decisions anywhere pulse oximetry or vital signs checking is needed in a compact, portable form factor. Coupled with the universal Mini-Clip™ pulse oximeter sensor to provide the ultimate in handheld versatility, Rad-G can be used in a variety of settings, including limited-resource environments, both indoors and in the field.

In the U.S., RRp is 510(k) cleared for patients greater than two years old.
